Marshfield CPC approves $4,350 coalition dues

Other Committee · Meeting of September 9, 2026

Marshfield Community Preservation Committee pays $4,350 in coalition dues, debates wider outreach on underused senior tax break. Chair Dennis Kelleher's panel voted unanimously by roll call to renew its Community Preservation Coalition membership, calling the statewide group "incredibly valuable" for legal guidance and advocacy. Members Jack and Terry Richardson presented research showing only 199 households used a CPA surcharge exemption for seniors and moderate-income homeowners last year, saving a combined roughly $24,000 against $2.5 million in total committee revenue.

Richardson said he contacted the assessor's office directly because "I wasn't sure what number they were using from which tax." Members floated a tax-bill insert or mailing campaign but flagged that the assessor's office, down one staff position, may struggle to process a surge in new applications; no funding decision was made. The committee also cleared a backlog of four sets of minutes, with Richardson abstaining twice, and set its next meeting for October 14.
