Marshfield Select Board appoints Langell town administrator, 2-1
Select Board · Meeting of July 27, 2026
Marshfield Select Board splits 2-1 to hire Weymouth's Ted Langell as town administrator. Chair Rick Smith and new Member Chris Rowland backed Langell over finalist Peter Caruso, with Member Eric Kelley dissenting and citing concerns Marshfield could grow "like Weymouth." The same meeting, the board set September 1, 2026, for a required ballot vote on the $7 million override town meeting approved in June, and voted 2-1, Kelley opposed, to send charter amendments expanding the board to five members and creating a finance director post to the state Legislature. Smith previewed a five-year no-new-override pledge tied to a fixed school funding formula and third-party efficiency audits.
The board also approved $5,701,268 in bond anticipation notes to Oppenheimer & Co. and reported fiscal 2026 free cash certified at $6,404,954.
