Marshfield Select Board names Deputy Patrick Smith acting fire chief in a brief, two-member session. Vice Chair Eric Kelley presided in Chair Rick Smith's absence alongside Clerk Chris Rohland, with Smith calling the appointment conditioned on town-administrator sign-off for any permanent promotions. The board also cleared $8,900 in donations, including $5,000 from the Owen Ritter Foundation to Ventress Memorial Library and $3,800 split among seven gifts to Veterans Services.
It approved a holiday light show at the Fairgrounds and a Recovery Rocks Fundraiser benefiting Social Peer Recovery, plus three committee appointments. Rohland, on the weekend's mental-health toll, said "it's okay to ask for help and there's places to go and there's people to talk to." Kelley closed by calling it "the fastest Select Board meeting" of his tenure, adjourning at 6:03 p.m.
