Marshfield Conservation Commission closes hearings on ADU, Water Street projects

Marshfield Conservation Commission unanimously approves ADU project near North River wetlands, issues two orders of conditions. The commission closed public hearings Wednesday on a proposed 36-by-24-foot accessory dwelling unit at 180 Sawyer's Lane and a separate landscaping project at 13 Water Street, both brought by engineer Rick Cervant of Senbeck and Taylor. Conservation Administrator Mike Steele recommended a dual erosion control barrier — a staked silt sock over a toed-in siltation fence — for the sloped rear yard at Sawyer's Lane, where the structure sits just over 90 feet from a bordering vegetated wetland draining to the North River Basin.

The commission added a condition requiring all ADU roof drainage to be routed to a subsurface dry well after abutter Colin West, of 190 Sawyer's Lane, raised concerns about an existing erosion hole that has grown larger over the years on his down-gradient lot. The board also extended the Christmas Cove subdivision permit on Highland Street by three years under the Massachusetts LEADS Act and retained a 30-day herbicide notification requirement before any Sonar treatments at Fairways Edge Pond.
