Conservation Commission Denies Green Harbor Dock
Marshfield conservation commissioners denied a long-contested dock at 12 Cariswell Street after two requested variances fell short of the unanimous vote the town's wetlands bylaw requires.
Conservation · Meeting of October 7, 2026
Marshfield conservation commissioners denied a long-contested dock at 12 Cariswell Street after two requested variances fell short of the unanimous vote the town's wetlands bylaw requires. The commission voted 4-1 to deny an order of conditions for applicant Bono's 134.9-foot Green Harbor dock, after a variance on dock length failed 2-3 and a side-setback variance from 25 feet to 10 feet passed only 3-2. Chair Craig Hannafin argued historical dock remnants on the North River did not justify approval, warning the town could otherwise see "200 docks on the North River." Resident Harry Klebanoff urged the board to weigh wetland-protection research, saying "an intact wetland is the best defense against flooding." In other business, commissioners continued hearings on a Constellation Road accessory dwelling unit and the Old Ocean Street "Epic Center" disability-services project, and approved an after-the-fact deck permit at 8 Ocean Street.
