Select Board · Meeting of August 31, 2026

Marshfield's Select Board seized control of public records duties after the town clerk stepped back from the role. The board voted 3-0 to appoint Town Administrator Ted Langell as interim records access officer, ordering the clerk to surrender portal access by noon the next day after Vice Chair Eric Kelley said records requests had gone unanswered for months, calling the situation "insane." The board separately approved a new liquor license for The Mug restaurant, a manager change at VFW Post 8345, and a sustainability purchasing policy, while tabling proposed licensing-fee increases — which could add nearly $30,000 a year in town revenue — for a vote on September 28. Langell must present a long-term records-officer plan at the September 14 meeting.
