Marshfield Waterways Committee Reelects Officers, Weighs Mandatory Mooring Insurance
MARSHFIELD -- June 25, 2026, Marshfield Waterways Committee reelects officers and advances discussion of mandatory mooring insurance. The committee unanimously returned Michael Dulac to the chair, with Bill Kerrigan as vice chair and Paula Lent as secretary. Members debated whether to follow Scituate's recently adopted requirement that all mooring holders carry at least $1 million in liability coverage and list the town as an additional named insured, with Dulac saying he would pull existing vessel description sheets over the summer to determine how many current permit holders lack coverage before any bylaw language is drafted. The committee also received an update on Marshfield's new harbormaster vessel, purchased with a $603,000 federal Port Security grant at a total cost of $804,000, while the replaced boat, listed for auction with a $319,000 reserve, will yield a sale in which a portion of proceeds must return to FEMA rather than the town's capital budget. Members agreed to skip the July meeting, review the town's waterways bylaws and the expired 2015 harbor and rivers management plan independently, and reconvene in September.
