School Committee · Meeting of August 18, 2026

Marshfield School Committee approved a nine-years-in-the-making revenue-sharing agreement with the town and signed off on a new alcohol policy for athletic events. Members voted 4-0 to approve the memorandum of understanding, which directs 68.5 percent of remaining shared town revenue to schools; Chair Sean Costello called it key to "predictability" amid "uneasy financial times." After Costello left early, Richard Greer took the chair for a 3-0 vote approving Marshfield High School handbook changes, including a Marshfield Police Department-backed policy barring spectators caught drinking at games for the rest of a season. Superintendent Patrick Sullivan said the district lost veteran teachers who feared instability rather than lost their jobs outright, and said a September 1 override vote will determine whether elementary class sizes, raised to as high as 28, come back down to 21 or 22.
