Marshfield School Committee votes to pursue Good Friday early release, trimming school year

School Committee · Meeting of March 10, 2026

Marshfield School Committee votes 3-0 to pursue early release on Good Friday. The committee, meeting March 10 at Daniel Webster School, unanimously approved entering into impact bargaining with district unions to potentially declare an early release day on Good Friday, which would move the last day of school from June 30 to June 26 — an isolated Monday that Chair said "I don't think many students would come to school." The change requires agreement from the Marshfield Education Association, the custodians' union, and band directors. The committee also honored the district's custodial staff for their work during the blizzard of 2026, presenting certificates to a team led by Assistant Facilities Manager Bob Battis, who described two and a half days of digging to reopen Moose Hill Way beside the high school.

Marshfield High School's Student Council was also recognized for receiving the Gold Council of Excellence Award at the NASC conference, scoring 49 of 50 possible points — the highest national recognition available.
