MARSHFIELD — The Marshfield Planning Board voted 5-0 against supporting a citizens petition to repeal the Brant Rock Village Overlay District. Petitioner Kathleen Creed said she represented "more than 100 residents" who want the decade-old mixed-use bylaw repealed and replaced with rules favoring the Esplanade's "traditional character." Opponents, including David Kelly of the Original Brant Rock Village Association and zoning consultant Paul Halkeotis, argued repeal would revert the area to 1950s-era B4 zoning and improperly combined a map change and bylaw change in one article. Nick DiStropoulos, citing the town's $7 million deficit, called repeal something that "will absolutely devastate this area." The board's recommendation heads to the October 19 special town meeting, where voters hold the binding vote.
The board separately approved releasing three remaining lots at Red Gold Farm contingent on a $141,870 surety payment.
